Adult Support Groups

Adult Advocacy Alliance (19+)

A monthly social support group for adults, 18 years and up, to connect, share and resource with one another. This group is an opportunity, for the many individuals living with epilepsy across York Region, to connect virtually by meeting others you may have a lot in common with, share personal interests or experiences and even make lasting connections. This is a chance for those living with epilepsy to self-advocate, share your voice, create awareness, de-stigmatize, educate and be part of an alliance that is directly supporting a part of who you are as an individual.

EYR welcomes all individuals living with epilepsy, whether new to the diagnosis, experienced throughout your life, un/controlled, seizure free for a duration or anywhere along your journey with epilepsy. The group will be a blend of personal sharing and focused events, topics or discussions with a monthly sign-up opportunity.

EYR adult groups will be held virtually through zoom for the time being, held on weekday evenings and run for an hour each meeting. Each month there will be a reminder email sent out for the group, a week in advance, where if you plan to attend, you simply reply to that email to confirm your attendance in the upcoming group session. RSVP’s must be made by the day before the session date by end of day to receive group and log-in details on the morning of the group date. Adult groups will be able to accommodate up to 10 attendees per session, so rsvp quickly before we fill up!

Parents for the Power of Purple

A social support group for parents of a child, of any age, living with epilepsy, to connect, share and resource with one another. This group is an opportunity, for the many parents of children living with epilepsy across York Region, to connect virtually by meeting others you may share common experiences with, have mutual understandings in your family’s way of life and offer support, care and recommendations to one another. This is a chance for parents to discuss challenges they may be facing, express concerns, ask questions, share experiences and comfort one another through their process.

EYR welcomes all parents, mothers, fathers or guardians, who are supporting a child living with epilepsy, whether new to the diagnosis, experienced throughout your life, un/controlled, seizure free for a duration or anywhere along your journey with epilepsy. By having a blend of long-term experienced parents, newly introduced parents, parents with children of various age categories, and parents supporting children with a complexity of medical conditions, it offers the ability to see this experience from many views, provides education and experience across a spectrum and allows parents to be a part of a group that is understanding in any point of you and your families journey.

The Parent Group Program has two different group options, running twice a month for each group. The program will continue to runs virtually through zoom, running from 8pm-9:30pm each session.

When registering, you are committing to both sessions running for the month, with month by month sign-up opportunity to welcome new Parents. There are only 6 spots available in each group, including single parents and couples, so please be mindful that there are limited spaces available when registering for the program. There will be a waitlist created for Parents registering after the 6 spots are filled each month, meaning this is a first come first serve sign-up opportunity.

  • Tuesday, June 21st

Thursday’s group is open to Parents of Babies, Toddlers and Elementary School Aged Children running:
